WUPPERTAL IS EVERYWHERE.
In so saying I have assumed that behind a table pennant or a flag that was brought out, there stands a small-scale enterprise from Wupptertal. As Europeans we have to learn that other parts of the world must be taken seriously as competitors in a global market. Only in so doing will we benefit from the challenge of globalization as a chance for a better future for Europe. That is, to bravely recognize in change, in that which is new, not the problem, but rather the opportunity and then to make the best from it, just as those who founded the Fahnen Herold Company did, whose 50th birthday we celebrate today.

during his speech on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Fahnen Herold on February 7, 1997 in Wuppertal

1947		Company established by Edith und Wilhelm Frauenhoff in Wuppertal under the company name HEROLD. First products darning eggs, building blocks, toys and bicycle streamers.
1950		Move to Spitzenstraße. Purchase of ribbon looms, construction of screen-printing press; textile production: pennants, printed and woven coats of arms.
1955		Acquisition of the building on Schwelmer Straße. Additional products; souvenir pennants and kerchiefs, woven emblems and embroidered aprons.
1961		Inauguration of the branch Borgholz near Kassel. 40 seamstresses work here on the production of aprons and smocks.
1965		Acquisition of the ribbon weaving mill on Handelsstraße. Products there: slender borders, straps for guitars and bells. Meanwhile, FAHNEN HEROLD employs more than 100 workers.
1968		Construction and concentration of the Schwelmer Straße site. Besides the products already mentioned, camping caps, sports team pennants, printed kites and flags.
1971		Serious fire in the Schwelmer Straße building. The fire destroys all the ribbon looms. Production continues on a provisional basis. Beginning of reconstruction. The first large horizontal banner is produced.
1972		Specialization in flag production. Design and construction of a half-automated flag printing facility.
1975		Purchase of larger production facilities on Langerfelder Straße and expansion of production.
1978		The first fully automated, electronically operated print machine is purchased. With "Reggiani," continuous 8-color printing is made possible.
1981		FAHNEN HEROLD constructs its own textile facility for pre- and post-washing of printed flags and horizontal banners.
1984		Purchase of the "In der Fleute" business complex and modifications.
1985		Complete move to the new company building. Full modernization and expansion of the machinery. 3 printing lines, expansion of print, finishing and subsequent processing capacities.
1992		Upgrading of the company location. New construction of an administration and production building. FAHNEN HEROLD has over 15,000 qm of production and storage area at its disposal.
1996		With its technical facilities and its know-how, the company belongs to the most important producers of flags in the world. Certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001.
1997		Fahnen Herold celebrates 50 years.
1999		Further expansion of the company location: new construction of a production hall. With it, FAHNEN HEROLD has over 18,000 qm of production and storage area at its disposal.
2000		Implementation of a new, highly modern printing line with 10 inking systems and a length of 75 meters. FAHNEN HEROLD now has one of the largest print capacities in the entire world.
2005		Upgrading of capacities in digital printing. Machines with completely new technology make it possible to achieve print quality never before imagined.
